I Wish There Was a God
Just as a child wishes Santa was real,
I wish there was a God, and one who could feel
The weight of the world and have every answer
To war, disease, famine, terror, and cancer.
Because after spending so many years,
Of praying countless prayers and crying endless tears,
It hurts one to know that it was all for naught,
As a child, it was something I never was taught.
I believed because life is so hard on my own,
I believed out of fear of being alone.
I believed for an answer, I believed for a guide,
I believed because I wanted someone by my side.
Like a child has to surrender an imaginary friend,
I knew that eventually, my belief had to end
